Houston, TX – Elon Musk’s satellite internet project, Starlink, is gearing up to launch its high-speed internet services in Pakistan. The company, a subsidiary of SpaceX, has approached the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to obtain the necessary permissions to begin operations in the country.

Starlink uses a network of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to provide fast, low-latency internet services, specifically designed to cater to underserved and remote areas worldwide. In Pakistan, where internet outages and slow speeds are frequent, Starlink’s arrival could be a game-changer.

The country has faced massive setbacks due to unreliable internet. Businesses, educational institutions, and essential services are often disrupted, leading to significant losses. According to the Pakistan Software Houses Association (PASHA), the economy loses Rs. 1.3 billion every day due to internet shutdowns.

PTA officials have also acknowledged that internet cables are frequently damaged by undersea disturbances, causing slow connectivity and frequent outages. This has led to growing public demand for Starlink to enter the market.

In response to a tweet by social activist Sanam Jamali, Elon Musk confirmed that Starlink is “waiting for the approval of the Pakistani government.”

If Starlink is approved, it could revolutionize internet access across the country, particularly in rural and remote regions. Better connectivity could help bridge the digital divide, enhance educational opportunities, support e-commerce growth, and create new business opportunities. It could also attract much-needed investment in Pakistan’s technology sector.

With the potential to transform Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, the public and businesses alike are hopeful that Starlink will soon bring high-speed internet to the nation.
