In a historic ceremony held in Lisbon on February 5, 2025, Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan was announced as the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslim community. The announcement was made following the reading of the Will of Mawlana Shah Karim, who designated Prince Rahim as his successor in accordance with the centuries-old Shia Imami Ismaili Muslim tradition of nass (designation).

The ceremony was attended by the Imam’s family, senior Jamati leaders, and representatives from the global Ismaili community. The transition marks the continuation of the Nur (light) of Imamat, which has been passed down in unbroken hereditary succession from Hazrat Mawlana Ali (peace be upon him), the first Imam.

Mawlana Shah Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V now assumes the spiritual leadership of the global Ismaili community, a role deeply rooted in faith, service, and commitment to the principles of Islam. His appointment ushers in a new era of guidance and stewardship, building upon the remarkable legacy of Mawlana Shah Karim.

The Ismaili community across the world has welcomed this announcement with reverence and renewed devotion, pledging their continued allegiance to their newly proclaimed Imam.
