SPRING, Texas – A tense situation unfolded on I-45 North Freeway Thursday as law enforcement shut down the highway in both directions following reports of an armed woman seated in the middle of the road.

According to Harris County authorities, the woman was involved in a vehicular crash before she exited her vehicle and made her way onto the southbound lanes. There, she reportedly sat down in a chair, holding a pistol and refusing to cooperate with deputies on the scene.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the woman appeared to be in emotional distress and was expressing suicidal thoughts. Deputies, along with mental health professionals, are attempting to de-escalate the situation peacefully.

Traffic has come to a complete standstill in the area, and drivers are being urged to avoid the freeway and seek alternative routes until further notice.

Authorities say their priority is the woman’s safety as they continue to negotiate. No injuries have been reported so far.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates
