SUGAR LAND, Texas — In a major step toward creating a more inclusive and connected community, Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers has officially broken ground on the highly anticipated Galaxy All-Abilities Park — a first-of-its-kind recreational space designed to welcome residents of all ages and abilities.
The new 1.6-acre park, located at 151 Stadium Drive in Sugar Land’s popular Imperial Neighborhood, promises a vibrant, accessible environment for families and individuals to play, connect, and enjoy the outdoors. Situated less than half a mile from Constellation Field — home of the 2024 Triple-A Champion Sugar Land Space Cowboys — the park will embrace a space-themed design in honor of the local team.
“Creating a park accessible to people of all abilities represents our commitment to community togetherness,” said Commissioner Meyers during the groundbreaking ceremony. “As one of the most diverse counties in the nation, it’s essential that we honor unique differences while establishing environments and experiences where everyone can share a sense of belonging and appreciation.”
Features of the $1.6 million park include a wheelchair-accessible playground, interactive sensory walls that encourage exploration of textures and shapes, and shaded seating areas for year-round enjoyment. Designed with inclusivity at its core, the facility aims to become a welcoming destination where families can gather, children can play side-by-side regardless of ability, and meaningful bonds can flourish.
The project is being funded through voter-approved County Parks Bonds and is expected to be completed by late 2025.
Local officials present at the groundbreaking included Judge Sonia Rash, Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3, Fort Bend County Clerk Laura Richard, and Ali Sheikhani from the Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office — all joining Commissioner Meyers to mark the start of this exciting new chapter for the community.
The Galaxy All-Abilities Park is poised to become a shining example of what it means to build for everyone — a place where accessibility, joy, and unity take center stage.
