Richmond, TX – As the new year begins, Fort Bend County is taking a proactive step in addressing the growing mental health crisis through an engaging town hall on suicide prevention. The event, titled “The Power of Connection: A Town Hall on Suicide Prevention,” will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 6 PM at the Fort Bend County Homeland Security & Emergency Management offices, located at 307 Fort Street, Richmond, Texas.

Hosted by The Honorable Jennifer Lane, Sugar Land Councilmember, and The Honorable Christian Becerra, 434th District Court Judge for Felony MH Court, this event seeks to foster dialogue and develop actionable strategies to combat suicide within the community. With suicide increasingly affecting schools and families in the area, this town hall provides an essential platform to unite and address the crisis head-on.

Key Topics of Discussion Include:
• Education Goals for Mental Health Awareness
• Legislative Strategies to Support Prevention
• Funding Requests for Essential Programs
• Advocacy Training to Empower the Community

The event is sponsored by Open Gate Wellness and organized in collaboration with the Fort Bend County Community Task Force for Behavioral Health & Suicide Prevention (BHSP). Attendees will gain insight into local resources and initiatives while contributing to breaking the “Culture of Silence” surrounding mental health.

“As we work to erase the stigma and save lives, this event is a call to action for all community members. It’s time to prioritize people over politics and show that we are better together,” said organizers.

Community members are encouraged to save the date and stand in solidarity for suicide prevention efforts. For more information or support, visit 988lifeline.org or contact Christian Becerra at Christian.Becerra@FBCTX.gov.

Let’s shatter the stigma and build a connected, compassionate community.
