Bellaire, Texas: Houston’s vibrant Vietnamese community came together at Kim Son Bellaire to celebrate their rich heritage through the “WOW Ao Dai Photoshoot,” hosted by Tami Phan. The event highlighted the traditional Ao Dai, a cultural icon of Vietnam, and its significance during the Lunar New Year, also known as Tết.

Model and participant Moon Nguyen shared with MMLive the deep cultural connection of the Ao Dai: “This is for Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year. These dresses are traditional Ao Dai, and we wear them on New Year to honor our heritage.”

The Ao Dai, a fitted long dress paired with trousers, is a timeless representation of Vietnamese identity and pride. It plays a central role during Tết celebrations, symbolizing respect for tradition, reverence for ancestors, and wishes for prosperity. Dresses for the event were designed by #WOWAODAI from Tami Phan, reflecting intricate craftsmanship and the vibrant spirit of Vietnamese artistry.

The photoshoot featured five professional photographers who captured the elegance of the Ao Dai against the stunning backdrop of Kim Son Bellaire, a venue known for embracing Vietnamese traditions. Participants, including Moon Nguyen and other community members, came together to celebrate not only the Lunar New Year but also the enduring legacy of their culture.

More than just a photoshoot, the event was a testament to the importance of preserving traditions and fostering community pride. It showcased the beauty of the Ao Dai while connecting generations through a shared celebration of Vietnamese identity during one of the most significant times of the year.
