
Houston, Texas — The largest Texas chapter of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America (APPNA) hosted its annual gala in Houston, drawing an impressive crowd of more than 600 Pakistani-American doctors, U.S. elected officials, and prominent community leaders.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to renowned businessman Syed Javed Anwar, honored for his outstanding contributions to the Pakistani-American community and his long-standing support for charitable causes.

A specially recorded video message from New York’s newly elected Muslim Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, was also showcased during the gala. In his message, Mayor Mamdani praised the dedication and service of Pakistani physicians and acknowledged the efforts of Democratic leaders Tahir Javed and Ibrahim Javed, along with APPNA Texas President Naveed Saqib and former president Haider Afzal.
The mayor’s introduction was delivered by young Democratic leader Ibrahim Javed.
Speaking to the media, Syed Javed Anwar emphasized the need for APPNA to expand medical services to underserved communities in interior Sindh and to support Pakistani students who lack financial resources to pursue medical education.

APPNA Texas President Naveed Saqib announced a new scholarship initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to deserving students enrolled in medical colleges across Pakistan.
The event was hosted by Dr. Murtaza Arif and Dr. Hina Manan, who kept the evening engaging and well-coordinated.

Adding vibrance to the night, a colorful fashion show featured local models showcasing modern and eye-catching designs by prominent fashion designers.
The gala concluded with a mesmerizing live performance by Pakistan’s legendary singer Sajjad Ali, whose soulful music left the audience captivated.
