HOUSTON – Tuesday morning in Houston began with an early and unexpected bout of severe weather, as powerful thunderstorms rolled through the region, soaking neighborhoods with heavy rain, sparking vivid lightning, and prompting concerns over localized flooding.

The storms, which developed before sunrise, intensified quickly, especially in areas north near Hempstead and south around Clear Lake and Dickinson. Gusty winds and downpours created hazardous driving conditions during the morning commute, with low-lying areas experiencing minor flooding.

As of late morning, the bulk of the storm activity is gradually easing, though lingering rain and thunder may persist for another hour or two. Meteorologists are closely monitoring the system, which is showing signs of shifting eastward.

Fortunately, the forecast for the afternoon looks more promising. Skies are expected to clear gradually, offering a break from the storms and a drier second half of the day.
