FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — A community sewing workshop sponsored by Shawn McDonald, candidate for Fort Bend County District Attorney, brought together more than 10 women and young girls for an afternoon of hands-on learning, creativity and community engagement.
The Monthly 101 Sewing Class offered participants an opportunity to develop practical sewing skills in a welcoming environment. Attendees learned how to create a reversible bag, gaining experience with a project that combined creativity with everyday usefulness.
Cyndis Rodriguez organized and led the workshop, providing individual guidance and teaching participants with care and patience. Her hands-on approach helped create an encouraging atmosphere where attendees could learn at their own pace and enjoy the experience.

The event was offered at no charge, making the learning opportunity accessible to community members interested in developing new skills and connecting with others.
The workshop highlighted the value of community-based initiatives that encourage creativity, lifelong learning and meaningful social connections. By bringing women and young girls together around a shared activity, the program offered more than a sewing lesson — it created an opportunity to learn, participate and build confidence.
McDonald’s sponsorship supported the initiative, while Rodriguez’s time and instruction helped bring the workshop to life.

Community programs such as this demonstrate how accessible educational activities can create positive local experiences and strengthen connections among residents.
The workshop served as a reminder that sometimes the simplest activities — learning a new skill, sharing knowledge and creating something by hand — can make a meaningful contribution to community life.
