HOUSTON — Help is available for Harris County homeowners who are struggling to keep their homes safe and comfortable during Houston’s extreme temperatures.
Rebuilding Together Houston is offering free window air-conditioning and heating units, with installation provided at no cost, through its Extreme Weather assistance program.
The program is aimed at low-income homeowners and individuals who need additional resources to deal with Houston’s unpredictable weather. According to the organization, eligible applicants must own and live full-time in the home and generally must be current on property taxes or have an official payment plan.
Residents must go through a pre-screening process before receiving assistance. The organization says qualified homeowners can receive the window AC/heating units at no cost.

Homeowners interested in finding out whether they qualify can contact Rebuilding Together Houston at 713-659-2511 or info@rebuildinghouston.org.
The assistance comes as Houston continues to face dangerous summer heat and growing concerns about residents who cannot afford to repair or replace broken cooling equipment.
For eligible homeowners, the program could provide an important safety net — helping ensure they have access to basic heating and cooling when extreme weather arrives.
Residents are encouraged to contact Rebuilding Together Houston directly to confirm eligibility and current availability.
