Harris County Judge Candidate Laetitia Plummer Calls on Muslim Americans to Vote in November Elections

Houston, Texas — A fundraising reception in support of Laetitia Plummer, the Democratic candidate for Harris County Judge, brought together Pakistani, Indian, and American business leaders and community representatives in Houston, highlighting the importance of civic engagement and voter participation ahead of the November elections.

During the event, Plummer urged Muslim Americans to turn out in large numbers, saying that greater political participation is essential to addressing policies affecting Muslim communities and immigrants in Texas.
The reception was hosted by prominent Asian American businessman Jimmy Mawani, who announced the Mawani Group’s full support for Plummer’s campaign. The gathering was attended by business leaders, community representatives, and political figures from across the Houston area.

Muslim Voter Participation and Community Concerns Take Center Stage
During her remarks, Plummer emphasized the importance of Muslim Americans exercising their right to vote in the upcoming elections. She said increased voter participation was necessary to respond to Republican policies in Texas that, in her view, negatively affect Muslims and immigrants.

Plummer also criticized actions taken by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, characterizing them as attacks on Muslim communities.
The event was moderated by prominent political figure and banker Maryam Khan. Attendees included Islamic Society of Greater Houston President Imran Ghazi, Pakistan Association of Greater Houston President Siraj Narasi, Pakistani American businessman Nasruddin Rupani, police officer Muzaffar Siddiqui, Afshin Charania, Dr. Barkat Charania, Fauzia Kasuri, and other community leaders.

Addressing the gathering, Siraj Narasi stressed the importance of the November elections, describing them as among the most consequential elections for the community and urging Pakistani Americans to participate actively.
Imran Ghazi highlighted concerns facing Muslims in Texas, particularly the inclusion of what he described as misleading material about Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in school curricula.

The reception reflected efforts by local business and community leaders to encourage political participation and bring attention to issues affecting Muslim and immigrant communities.

Plummer to Face Republican Orlando Sanchez in November
Plummer secured the Democratic nomination after defeating former Houston Mayor Annise Parker in the May 26, 2026, runoff, receiving 57,755 votes to Parker’s 55,213.

In the November 3 general election, Plummer will face Republican nominee Orlando Sanchez, a former Harris County treasurer and longtime Houston-area political figure. Sanchez won the Republican runoff against Warren A. Howell.
Plummer, a dentist and former Houston City Council member, was the first Muslim woman elected to Houston City Council. If elected Harris County Judge, she would make history as the county’s first Muslim judge in that position.
