HOUSTON, Texas: Following a successful policy dialogue at Rice University, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, led a high-level delegation on a visit to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, marking another significant step in strengthening scientific and technological cooperation between Pakistan and the United States.
The visit brought together government officials, community leaders, and members of the Pakistani-American diaspora for discussions centered on innovation, space technology, education, research, and Pakistan’s long-term development strategy.
Among those accompanying the minister were Democratic leader Tahir Javed and Rao Kamran, who participated in the meetings and discussions focused on expanding collaboration in science, technology, and sustainable development.
The delegation met with NASA representatives to learn about ongoing space exploration initiatives and explore opportunities for future cooperation. Discussions emphasized the importance of investing in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), promoting research partnerships, and strengthening educational exchanges between the two countries.
Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal highlighted Pakistan’s vision of building a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation, technological advancement, and international collaboration. He noted that partnerships with leading global institutions are essential for accelerating Pakistan’s progress in scientific research, higher education, and sustainable development.
The visit followed the minister’s keynote address at Rice University during the dialogue titled “Reimagining Pakistan: Diplomacy, Development, and Opportunities Post US-Iran War,” where policymakers, diplomats, academics, and business leaders discussed Pakistan’s future in an evolving global environment. The event also featured remarks from former U.S. officials, community leaders, and members of the Pakistani-American community.
During the Houston visit, Tahir Javed reaffirmed the Pakistani-American community’s commitment to strengthening ties between Pakistan and the United States through education, innovation, investment, and people-to-people engagement. He emphasized that the diaspora continues to play a vital role in fostering collaboration and creating new opportunities for future generations.
Participants described the meeting at NASA’s Johnson Space Center as productive and forward-looking, focusing on expanding cooperation in space science, advanced technologies, and educational initiatives. Officials expressed optimism that the discussions could pave the way for future collaborative efforts between Pakistan and NASA, subject to the completion of formal agreements and mutual approvals.
